there is a new version of drivers and mftoolbox (v18; released this month). i uninstalled the existing drivers and mftoolbox, rebooted, installed the new drivers and mftoolbox, and rebooted again....

If you posted back sooner, I would've suggested you do what i did which was manually remove every trace in folder directories and registry of the software. That allowed me to install the new version....
