If you have already downloaded and installed the MF Scan Utility software let's perform the below steps to scan:

1. Open the Windows Desktop.

2. Right click on the MF Scan Utility icon and click Properties.

3. Click the Compatibility tab, then click "Change settings for all users".

4. Put a check next to "Run this program as an administrator", then click Apply and OK.

5. Open the MF Scan Utility software and attempt a scan at this point.

Hi BluelimeGraFX

It appears you have already performed most of the steps Canon would have you do to resolve this type of issue.  At this point, take out the toner and rock it 5 or 6 times to evely distrube the toner.  Reinsert the toner then attempt a print job at this point.

Re: Canon iR-ADV C5550 scan and send email (Gmail) not working - SMTP Could not find the server

Further update. I finally managed to get it resolved. Users can now scan and send their documents to Gmail.

I essentially reaffirmed the configuration on the printer and not via the Remote UI in the browser. It appears the Remote UI may not be baking the configuration on the printer. The steps are:

1. On the physical printer, login as administrator to access "Function Settings > Send > Email/I-Fax Settings > Communication Settings".

2. Verify the mail server (smtp.gmail.com), user name and reenter the password.

3. Verify that the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is selected.

4. Return to "Email/I-Fax Settings" and under "Specify Port Number for SMTP TX/POP RX", set 465 for SSL (or 587 for TLS). This was set to port 25. In the past, I didn't notice the SMTP Ports setting.

5. Under "Communication Settings", there's a test SMTP connection button. The result was positive.

Hope this helps others.

Black Line down the page

I keeping getting a black line down the page no matter what I do. I have cleaned the glass, changed the ink cartridge, ran the cleaning program through the menu screen. The line shows up not matter what I do. HELP!

I have a canon imageclass MF4890dw

Update - the blackline runs vertical down the left side of the page only.  It happens when I print from the computer to the printer, when I scan copies on the glass and through the top loader, and when I fax. Again I have cleaning the glass, removed the plastic strip and clean that and I have run the cleaning program through the menu screen.

I've downloaded the MF scan utility but have not been able to open or install.  I have Windows 10 (x64), which was detected when I downloaded the software.

There was a driver error code: 9,230,0 - but the "scangear" driver found on the page you linked me to has a note that it does not support Windows.

Hi Merrily203,

The PIXMA MX870 was retired prior to the release of Macintosh OS 10.13 High Sierra, and no drivers have been written for the new operating system.  The printer will continue to work with OSX 10.11 El Capitan or earlier, and will function as a fax and photocopier regardless of operating system. Older versions of the drivers may not provide full functionality on new computers.

If you would like to replace your printer, you are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price, and with free FedEx Ground shipping. If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 seven days a week, 8am to Midnight ET. Let them know you have been working with email technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.

Hi rmao

The unit may just need to be reset in order to resolve this error.  Please unplug the power to the unit for10 minutes then plug it back in and power back on the machine.  Additionally, try plugging the unit directly into the wall outlet as opposed to a surge protector or power strip.

Hi nejiwhopper

I recommend cleaning the Fixing Unit and the Transfer Belt to resolve the issue.  Please click HERE for instructions to clean the Fixing Unit.  Perform the following steps to clean the Transfer Belt:

Transfer Belt

Dirt may adhere to the transfer belt inside the machine and cause the print quality to deteriorate. To clean the transfer belt, perform the following procedure. Note that you cannot clean the transfer belt when the machine has documents waiting to be printed.

1. Select <Menu> in the Home screen.

2. Select <Adjustment/Maintenance>  <Maintenance>.

3. Select <Clean ITB>.

4. Select <Start>.
Cleaning starts. When a message appears stating that cleaning is complete, press  to return to the Home screen.

If the issue continues, take out the toner and rock it 5 or 6 times to envely distrube the toner.  Reinsert the toner and then attempt a print job.

Suddenly, when I use Canon MF Scan Utility and select "PDF Document Scan" button for my "Canon MF632/634_409F38943CB5" product, I get the following error -- even though I am scanning a letter-sized document in the tray. I swear this is a recent occurrence. Thoughts?

Selected paper size is larger than physical scanning area. Cropping will occur. Continue?

Hi doris,

Make sure all cables are securely connected.  Addtionally, take the unit into another room and try plugging it into another power source to see if the unit will power up.  If the unit is plugged into a surge protector try plugging it directly into the power outlet.  Also, press the Energy Saver key on the control panel to see if the unit will awake.
